George Kinoti's Biography in Summary

Kenyans are familiar with George Kinoti, the country's Director of Criminal Investigations. He is also a man who has created history as one of Kenya's public workers who was imprisoned for four months. This article examines his history, focusing on his upbringing, profession, and personal life experience.

George Kinoti's Age and Birthplace
George Kinoti was born in Meru Town in 1967. Growing up in the slums, he never imagined he'd be the guy in Kenya's DCI seat. He was raised by a single, pious mother who taught him not to worry about life and to trust in God's providence. This was especially true after his father abandoned the family when he was young, leaving behind a family of seven children, and he first met his father when he was thirty years old.

After finishing primary school, he enrolled in Pope Pius X Seminary, where he excelled in his O-level exams. When he was admitted to Kanyakine High School, near the seminary, he began his trek down religious road. After finishing his A-levels, he enrolled at Egerton University to study sociology. Back then, incoming students had to go through forced paramilitary training at the National Youth Service.

Bishop Njiru sent him to the National Youth Service camp in Gilgil, therefore ruining his priesthood ambitions. This was the start of his career journey in his chosen field. He earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and geography before going on to earn a master's degree in security management.

George Kinoti Career Journey

Since 1992, George Kinoti has worked as a police officer in various grades and stations. He was previously the Head of Security and Investigation Service for the Central Bank of Kenya National Police, based in the Inspector General's office. President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated him as the new DCI on January 5, 2018, replacing Ndegwa Muhoro. During his career, he received 35 bullet wounds and had a near-death experience.

He fought thieves in Kisumu, Busia, Migori, Isebania, and other areas before being appointed as a Personal Assistant to former DCI Joseph Kamau. Kinoti's tenure as a PA had also seen him oversee an unit of elite detectives known as the Kanga Squad, who dealt with Nairobi terrorists with an iron grip.
