Undiscovered talent abounds in Kenya. Many comedians are rising to notoriety by making original content for social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The days of being considered a great comedian by appearing on Churchill's show are long gone.
Victor Naman Omutula is one such comedian who has used social media to establish himself as one of our generation's most well-known artists. He amuses Kenyans with humorous videos that reflect current events in the country. He has over 1 million Facebook fans and over 300K YouTube subscribers. He had over 37 million views by the time this essay was published.
FamilyThe comedian is married to Ann, who appears in a few of his videos. They met three years ago and married the following year. He has a two-and-a-half-year-old kid named Larry, but he refuses to expose him to social media.
Victor Naman Career
Victor opted to pursue the then-unknown avenue of social media after beginning his career in television comedy. Pranksters formed a group called Rib Crackers, and they devised the concept for a prank show called 'Naswa,' which first aired on citizen television before moving to K24. Naman and his fellow performers pulled practical jokes on unsuspecting bystanders on the streets.
His next stop was his XYZ performance. After a few appearances, the show's voice director, Edward Caemba, offered him to play a role in his XYZ. He made the cut because his voice mirrored that of Atwoli.
Mr. Speaker, Sir was the next show to air on QTV before it shut down. He played a spoof of former Speaker of Parliament Kenneth Marende on the show. He also directs "Kaarada" for Citizen TV and "Ikararito" for Inoro FM. (From the Daily Nation)
In 2017, he launched his own brand on Facebook and YouTube channel 'Ujinga Za Victor Naman'. He continues to do so to this day, consistently updating his videos on both platforms. His comedy revolves around the topic of food, especially ugali and chicken (a favorite food in his community where he is also from Ruhya) and trends. Comedians have made impressions from Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Waititu, Francis Atwoli and more.
Victor can do more than 40 voice impressions of him. He got the chance to appear on Churchill's show impersonating Raila Odinga when he was a guest on the same show. Raila then gave him a 6 out of 10. Ida Odinga also invited him to perform at an event she hosted. The father of one has also met President William Ruto. His comedy has also allowed him to collaborate with various brands such as Safaricom.
This content creator also owns a coffee shop called Vick-Anne Fish Point in Kimbo, Juja. He runs a business with his wife.
