Nancy Indoverie Kizungu, also known as Mathe, who is suspected of selling marijuana in Ngara, is currently evading authorities.
Kizungu is reported to have gone into hiding following the arrest of her associate, Teresia Wanjiru, on Tuesday, August 15.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) stated that Wanjiru, along with three minors, was apprehended during a raid conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Trans National Organised Crime Unit at her residence in the Karuia slums within Ngara.
A police insider informed The Standard that Wanjiru is believed to be working for Mathe, who is allegedly the primary distributor of marijuana, sourced from Isebania, Busia, and Moyale. Mathe's influence has allowed her to continue her operation without police interference. She operates primarily in slum areas where she has enlisted individuals as "watchmen and informants" to alert her of potential police raids.
"Nancy holds considerable sway, to the point that she can manipulate the transfer of police officers within Parklands, Central, Ngara, and Kamukunji Police Stations. She also orchestrates the placement of friendly and cooperative officers in preferred stations. Her operations are centered in the Karuia slums of Ngara, Nairobi. This area provides an ideal operational base, as she incentivizes unemployed youths to provide security and act as informants in case of any police presence," revealed the source to The Standard.
In June 2022, Mathe, along with her associates, was arrested and brought before the Kahawa Law Courts, where she was fined Sh525,000 before being released.
During the recent raid, the Anti-Narcotics Unit discovered twenty bags of cannabis, four cartons of rolling materials, 173 packaged sweets, a carton of suspected weed cookies, and Sh13.4 million at their location in the Kariua slums
