Omah Lay began producing music at a young age, inspired by his grandpa, who was a percussionist for famed Highlife vocalist Celestine Ukwu.
His father, who was also a drummer, was a local hero in terms of drumming despite the fact that he did not reach higher levels.

According to the singer, he began singing at the age of 15 and then became a producer for a long time before returning to singing.
Omah Lay's music has been described as a mix of Burna Boy and Wizkid in one voice. His style can be described as Afro-Fusion.
Singles such as Hello Brother and Do Not Disturb, both released in 2019, marked his entry into the music world, but it was "You" and "Bad Influence," both from his debut EP Get Layd, that captured everyone's attention.
Following the positive reception to both singles, Omah Lay issued the Get Layd EP, which included other tracks such as Damn, LoLo, and Ye Ye Ye, on May 22 to rudder-stamped the endorsement because of his ability His first track, which was released on February 14, 2020, was widely streamed across all major music platforms and went on to top charts such as Cool FM Tastemakers and Soundcity Top 20.
Native Mag identified Omah Lay as an artist to watch in 2020 on their March episode of 'Fresh Meat.' Omah Lay is signed to Dvpper Music and is the first African artist to be promoted by Apple Music's Africa Rising Initiative, a music and video streaming platform.
