The DPP had a privileged upbringing thanks to his father, Garissa Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji. From 2008 to 2013, the senior Haji served as Kenya's Minister of Defence, also acting as Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012.
Yusuf worked as a public administrator between the 1970s and the late 1990s before entering politics. Noordin's mother was an educator. The Garissa Senator refuted claims that he played a role in his son's appointment as DPP.
He went on to say that he feared for his son's life because his appointment would bring many enemies.
Haji, a Muslim, served as an altar boy while attending a Catholic school in Nyahururu. Despite having studied in Christian institutions, he has stated that he is still a devout Muslim.
The DPP is married and has children, but he keeps them out of the public eye.
Education
After finishing primary school, Haji enrolled in Kabarak High School for secondary education before transferring to Greensteds International School in Nakuru.
Mr. Noordin Haji has an LLM and an LLB from the University of Wales and Cardiff, respectively. He holds an MNSPO (Master of National Security Policy) with distinction from Australian National University. He also has a post-graduate diploma from Kenya School of Law.
Career
In the year 2000, he began his career in the public sector as a State Counsel at the Attorney General's Office. His career began in the Attorney General's office, where he was a deputy director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for many years. His duties included providing legal advice to the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigations, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service, and other non-law enforcement agencies.
He was appointed as the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) after a thorough investigation by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and vetting by the National Assembly.
Haji was later appointed as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) by the President of the Republic of Kenya in March 2018. He has worked tirelessly to improve crime-fighting coordination and inter-agency collaboration.
