Chinedu Okoli, recognized by his stage name Flavour N'abania or simply Flavour, is a Nigerian artist who excels as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and live performer.
His musical journey took off as a drummer for a local church, but Flavour gained widespread recognition across Africa and globally due to his hit track "Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)." He is currently under the label 2nite Entertainment.
In 2005, he launched his eponymous debut album titled "N'abania." He followed this with his second studio album, "Uplifted," in 2010. The album's success, supported by singles like "Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)," "Adamma," and "Oyi Remix," elevated Flavour's status to one of Africa's most sought-after artists. His popularity led to numerous concert and social event bookings after the release of "Uplifted."
Flavour, renowned for his fluency in singing in the Igbo language, was born in Enugu State, Nigeria. His roots trace back to Umunze in Orumba South LGA, Anambra State, Nigeria. Flavour's musical journey commenced at the age of 13 when he began playing the drums for his church choir in Enugu. The church's resident pastor introduced him to Chris I. Order, the CEO of SoundCity Communications.
In 1996, Flavour was offered an educational scholarship by the company to study music. After three years of drumming, he transitioned to playing drums professionally. By 1999, he shifted from drums to the keyboard and also provided backing vocals for fellow musicians at SoundCity.
Flavour made his entry into Nigeria's music scene at 19, initially as a drummer and pianist for a local Enugu band. After honing his drumming skills, he received an opportunity to perform at City Centre, Enugu, which spurred him to expand his horizons. His background in music studies allowed him to learn music production from figures like Dekumzy, Isi Charles, and Nnachie.
In 2005, Flavour released his debut album "N'abania" through Obaino Music. Although the album primarily gained recognition in Eastern Nigeria, especially Enugu State, Flavour collaborated with Mr Raw on the album's lead single, "N'abania."
Building on the success of his debut, Flavour released "Uplifted" in 2010. His belief that this album would surpass his previous work turned into reality, as the album broke national boundaries. "Uplifted" was eventually released by South African label Lolhiphop Records due to high demand. Notable tracks include "Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)," "Adamma," and "Oyi Remix" featuring Tiwa Savage.
His album "Blessed," launched on October 18, 2012, through 2nite Entertainment and iROCKING LTD, marked a significant milestone. This album, containing contributions from numerous producers, was accompanied by the grand opening of Flavour's 2nite Club on the same day.
Flavour's commitment to growth and maturity in his music was evident in his 2014 release "Thankful." Featuring tracks like the love ballad "Ololufe" with Chidinma and the Afro-Pop song "Wake Up" with Wande Coal, "Thankful" received positive reviews and achieved substantial sales.
His 2017 album "Ijele The Traveller" continued his musical journey with 17 tracks, including a special feature with a blind Liberian fan.
In 2018, Flavour released singles like "Crazy Love" with Yemi Alade and "Awele" featuring the Igbo traditional duo Umu Obiligbo.
Beyond his music, Flavour was reported to be in a legal dispute with Ghanaian duo Wutah in 2012 over the alleged theft of their song "Kwarikwa."
Flavour's artistic evolution showcases his growth, influence, and contributions to African music.
