As a banker

Mayorkun, like most people, began his career immediately after graduation. Despite his strong desire to work in the music industry, he was hired by one of Nigeria's banks with his accounting degree. 

He worked in the banking industry for a while but struggled a lot and eventually decided to leave. In 2016, he handed in his resignation letter, claiming that the bank's pay was deplorable. 
He left the banking industry right away to pursue his passion. His father fully supported his decision to pursue his passion. His mother, on the other hand, was vehemently opposed to the move. After Davido spotted him and signed a record deal, the singer's mother began to support him.

As a singer, 

Emmanuel and his GBO friends released their first single in 2013. However, he had to stop singing in order to finish his studies as his parents required. 

After leaving his job as a banker, he pursued a music career. 

Following his resignation, he posted a cover of Davido's song, The Money. After hearing the cover, Davido immediately followed him on Instagram and Twitter and called him. Davido asked him to send him some of his recorded songs, and after hearing them, he signed him to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). 
Eleko, the singer's first single under Davido Music Worldwide, was released in 2016. Mayorkun's new song had over a million views in the first ten days of its release. The Mayor of Lagos, Mayorkun's new album, was released on November 16th, 2018. In 2020, he released the EP album Geng.
