John Allan Namu is married to Sheena Makena, who is three years his senior. However, the couple's age disparity does not worry them, as they have stated in several interviews. They married in 2010 and have four children. In an interview with Ebru TV, the couple discussed their love story, which began at the Standard Media Group, where Namu was interning and his wife worked as an editor.

His major break came when Mohammed Ali chose him to do an investigation on car-tracking designs called 'The Rogue Tracker.' The investigation into that story changed his life. But, first, he had to go into hiding, adding that the story was 'frightening & exhilarating.

Namu resigned from KTN in 2015 after a successful tenure as Special Projects Editor. His decision to depart was based on the fact that "......mainstream environment is just evolving smaller and smaller, and that has to be expressed!" We occasionally editorialize when we shouldn't, which is not what investigative journalism is about. "You have to have the freedom to speak your stories," he remarked on NTV's The Trend show.
