Abraham Kibiwot's Biography in Summary

Abraham Kibiwot (born 4 June 1996) is a steeplechase runner from Kenya. In 2016, he won a bronze medal at the African Athletics Championships. His personal best time is 8:09.25 minutes, which he set in 2016.

Kibiwot made his international debut in the 2000 meters steeplechase event at the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships.

In 2015, he made a name for himself by winning the Kenyan junior trials and the gold medal at the 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships, defeating Ethiopia's reigning Youth Olympic champion Wogene Sebisibe Sidamo in Addis Abeba.

He finished that season with a personal best of 8:22.10 minutes at the London Diamond League meet, ranking second behind another Kenyan, Nicholas Kiptanui Bett.

Kibiwot broke into the senior ranks during the 2016 season. He was a standout on the 2016 IAAF Diamond League, beginning with a personal best of 8:09.25 minutes to finish third in Doha. In Beijing, he finished second to Ezekiel Kemboi and won his first race at Athletissima in Lausanne.

He also finished fifth in the Herculis and Memorial Van Damme meets. That year, he was the seventh-fastest steeplechaser.

Kibiwot competed in the 2016 Athletics Kenya Olympic Trials but did not compete in the final.

He was, however, chosen for the 2016 African Athletics Championships, where he won his first major medal - a bronze medal behind Ethiopia's Chala Beyo and Tolosa Nurgi.
