9ice's Biography in Summary

Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly recognized as 9ice, is a Nigerian artist, lyricist, and performer. He's celebrated for his bold use of the Yoruba language in his music, his proverbial lyrics, and his unique vocal style. He's been honored with numerous awards in the hip-hop genre. Additionally, he was appointed as the Special Adviser to former Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State in 2015.

9ice's Early Life and Education:

Born on January 17th, 1980, in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria, 9ice grew up in the Lagos suburbs of Shomolu Bariga. He received his elementary education at Abule Okuta Primary School and attended CMS Grammar School Bariga for his secondary education. He faced a more than four-year hiatus after secondary school due to difficulty in securing admission to university. During this time, he explored various low-paying professions and engaged in activities like writing, football, and boxing. Ultimately, he gained admission to Lagos State University to study law but later left to focus on his music career.

Despite facing initial resistance from his parents, who were initially skeptical of his music aspirations, they eventually supported his musical journey.

9ice's Career:

Starting to write and perform songs at just fourteen, 9ice was heavily influenced by Alhaji Alabi Pasuma (Pasuma Wonder) and the Fuji music subgenre. His surroundings and musical icons like Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Adé, Tatalo Alamu, Alhaji Ayinla Omowura, and Alhaji Haruna Ishola inspired his music.

His music career began in the 1990s, with his first demo, "Risi de Alagbaja," in 1996. However, it wasn't until 2000 that he released his debut solo single, "Little Money." One of his notable songs, "Gongo Aso," released in 2008, led to international recognition, including performing at Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Tribute Performance in the UK. He won the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year award at the MTV Africa Music Awards.

He gained popularity among Nigerian college campuses through tours like Soundcity/MTN Campus Blast and the "Let's Go There Tour With Ariya Entertainment" in the US. He performed at sold-out concerts in the Netherlands and Malaysia to mark Nigeria's 50th anniversary in 2010. He also embarked on a European tour, reaching Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Cyprus.

His album "Gongo Aso" won multiple awards at the 2009 Hip Hop World Awards.

In 2020, 9ice released a new album titled "Tip of The Iceberg: Episode 1" and founded Alapomeji Ancestral Records.

9ice's Political Career:

In 2015, he vied for a House of Representatives seat under the APC in Oyo State but lost in the primaries. He later became a special adviser to Abiola Ajimobi.

9ice's Personal Life:

He has been married three times and has children from various relationships. His marriages to Toni Payne and Adetola Anifalaje ended in divorce. His current spouse is Ola Sunkanmi Ajala, with whom he has a child. He also has children with Michelle Abolanle Akande and Vickie Godis.
