She formally began her music career in 2012, when she released a song called Me and You with Ommy Dimpoz.

Closer, her first single, was released in January 2013 and was a huge success. It received over 30,000 downloads in its first week, which no other Tanzanian musician had ever done. The song also remained at the top of the charts for 13 weeks in a row.

She released her second single, Come Over, in November.

The song was a huge hit, charting in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Nigeria, among other places.

Hawajui, her second song, was released in June 2014. She later appeared in Season 2 of Coke Studio Africa, where she teamed and sang alongside Nigerian singer Burna Boy. She also performed on the Kili Music Tour among some of the industry's biggest names. She also performed on the Serengeti Music Tour alongside Diamond Platinumz, Victoria Kimani, Davido, and Pato Ranking.

She worked with Barnabas Elias to create Siri, a stunning Afro Pop song.

It's about a young man who tempts a young wife with materialistic promises. The video for Hawajui was released on MTV Base in December.

In March 2015, she released the tune Nobody But Me, and the following month, she played at Nigeria's Gidi Culture Festival as the lone Tanzanian artist.

In May 2015, she sang a song on girl power with seven other ladies from other countries. The song highlighted the Poverty Is Sexist campaign and demonstrated how empowering young women was a powerful instrument in eradicating poverty, as well as calling out inequity and injustice.

She headlined the Mombasa Rocks Festival in Kenya in 2016 alongside international performers Chris Brown and Wizkid. She also took part in the Tanzania Fiesta tour and the Houston One Africa Music Festival.

Vanessa Mdee Relationship

For six years, the award-winning singer was in a relationship with Juma Jux. They split in 2018 and kept it a secret until Vanessa confirmed it in a 2019 interview.

The singer then began dating Rotimi, revealing in an interview that she knew they were meant to be two days after meeting. They each have tattoos of each other's names on their bodies and got married at the end of 2020.
