Olurotimi Akinosho (born November 30, 1988) is an American actor and musician better known as Rotimi. He is most recognized for his roles as Darius Morrison in Starz's Boss and Andre Coleman in Power.

Early life and education

Rotimi was born in Maplewood, New Jersey, to Nigerian parents; his father was an investment banker of Yoruba descent, while his mother was a government employee of Igbo origin. He went to Columbia High School and was a member of both the varsity basketball team and the choir. In 2010, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication and a minor in Business from Northwestern University.

Career
Acting

Rotimi auditioned for and received his first acting part on Boss as drug dealer Darius Morrison during his first acting trial. Rotimi also appeared in three episodes of Betrayal on ABC.

Rotimi made his feature film debut in the film Black Nativity (2013). Following that, he starred in Imperial Dreams, which received "Best of NEXT" at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Rotimi next appeared in the box office success Divergent (2014). Rotimi also appeared in the 2016 film Deuces alongside Lance Gross and Larenz Tate.

He joined the cast of Starz's TV series Power as a series regular, playing Andre Coleman, Ghost's quick-tempered teenage protégé. 

Music

Rotimi, a modern R&B performer, released two digital mixtapes, The Resume (March 8, 2011) and While You Wait (March 8, 2011). (November 30, 2011). His videos have appeared on international and domestic entertainment media such as MTV, MTV Base, and VH1 Soul.

Rotimi has opened for Jennifer Hudson, T.I., Estelle, and NERD on stage; he has also been on BET's show 106 and Park and in R&B artist Keyshia Cole's music video "Trust and Believe" as Cole's unfaithful boyfriend.

Rotimi's song "I'm the One" was included on the first episode of Boss. 50 Cent, the American rapper and executive producer of Power, signed Rotimi to his label, G-Unit Records, in 2015. He also dropped his debut G-Unit hit, "Lotto," which featured 50 Cent.

Rotimi released "Doin It," a single off his 5-track EP Summer Bangerz, in 2016. In 2017, he released his first EP, Jeep Music Vol. 1.

In 2019, he released a tune titled "Love Riddim," which drew attention from both old and new fans.

Personal life

On November 25, 2019, Rotimi posted a photo of himself and Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee posing in an elevator on a date night, and Vanessa confirmed their connection by uploading the same photo with a different caption. Rotimi said how the two met at a party and hit it off, and Vanessa revealed in an interview how she knew he was her husband only two days after meeting him. They each had tattoos of each other's names on their bodies: her (middle) name, Hau, on his right wrist and his name, Rotimi, on her chest. They also have matching wrist tattoos of the number 1045.

Rotimi married Vanessa in December 2020. They were expecting their first kid as a couple. A sequence of pregnancy images were used to announce the news. The couple will have a son on September 29, 2021. They had their second child in November 2022, making Rotimi a father of two.
