Rebecca Miano began her legal career in Nairobi, working for the law firm "Musyoka Annan & Company Advocates." She then accepted a position at the law firm "Slater and Gordon," which was based in Queensland, Australia. She began working as an assistant legal office with Kenya Electricity Generating Company, popularly known as KenGen, in 1998.

She worked hard and was eventually promoted to the post of assistant corporate secretary. She had been Director of Legal Affairs and Company Secretary at KenGen since 2008, when she was appointed to Acting Managing Director in August 2017. She had held both of these jobs since 2008.

She was appointed in November of 2017.

Miano is the first woman to assume the post of CEO at KenGen. She was one of just two women in Kenya who ran a parastatal corporation as of November 2017. The only other woman was MaryJane Mwangi, the CEO of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya.

She is a member of both the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya and the Law Society of Kenya. In Kenya, she is also a certified public secretary. In recognition of her significant body of work, she was granted Kenya's highest civilian decoration, the Order of the Grand Warrior, in 2010.
