Nicholas Kiptoo Korir Salat is a Kenyan politician who serves as Secretary-General of the Kenya African National Union (KANU).
Salat became interested in politics after becoming the organizing secretary of KANU in 1996. Isaac Kipkorir Salat, his father, was also an MP. Between 1974 and 1988, his father served three terms as President.
Mr. Nick Salat He first entered active politics in 2002, when he ran for the Bomet Constituency. In the 2007 general election, he was defeated by Kipkalya Kones.
He ran unsuccessfully for the Bomet County senatorial seat in 2013 and 2017. President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as Chairperson of the Agriculture Development Corporation in August 2020.
In 2019, he stated that Kanu was on a retreat mission to re-enter national politics in the same way that he did after independence. He has been an outspoken supporter of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Salat has been dealing with issues ensuring land grabbing in the country as chairman of the ADC. ADC is frequently concerned with ensuring that government officials do not use public land for personal gain.
Salat issued a warning to land grabbers in January 2021, stating that the corporation had begun an audit of its land ownership and usage. Salat went on to say that the land owned by the corporation was being privatized at a time when the country was struggling to manage its agricultural sector.
