Dr. SID was born on May 1, 1980, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos but has roots in Delta State, part of Nigeria's South-South region. His father, Justus Esiri, was a respected Nollywood actor, and his mother, Omiete Esiri, is a fashion designer. Among four siblings, he's the second child. He attended Nigerian Air Force Secondary School in Ikeja for his secondary education and went on to study dentistry and dental surgery at the University of Ibadan. Even during his school days, he displayed a passion for entertainment, participating in plays, dance competitions, and concerts, earning numerous awards.
Career-wise, Dr. SID's focus has primarily been on music. His desire to become a musician was evident from a young age. In 1999, he signed with Trybe Records as a choreographer and spent three years there as a backup dancer. In 2002, he became part of Da Trybe and played a significant role in the song "OYA," which played a key role in the evolution of Nigerian hip-hop that year. His debut single, "Don’t Stop," released in 2003, topped the MBI charts for eight weeks. However, he took a break from music to complete his university degree.
After obtaining his dental degree in 2004, Dr. SID moved to the UK and collaborated with artists like Felix Duke, R70, D’prince, JJC & the 419 squads. Upon returning to Nigeria, he worked at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for a year and then completed his National Youth Service in Adamawa State, all while juggling dentistry and music.
In 2005, he began recording his album "Prognosis" and received a Best New Act nomination at the 2005 AMEN Awards. He eventually decided to shift his focus entirely to music and joined Don Jazzy's Mo' Hits Records. His collaborations and features on the Mo’ Hits Allstars’ album "Curriculum Vitae (CV)" in 2007 showcased his talent.
Teaming up with producer Don Jazzy, Dr. SID worked on his debut solo album under Mo’ Hits Records. "Something About You," the first single from his album "Turning Point," was released in September 2009 and gained popularity on African music charts. He performed alongside fellow artists like D’banj, Wande Coal, and Kenyan musician STL at the MTV Africa Music Awards in Kenya as part of Mo’ Hits Allstars.
When Mo’ Hits Records' co-founders D’banj and Don Jazzy went their separate ways, Dr. SID joined Don Jazzy's Mavin Records. Additionally, he had three tracks from his upcoming album featured on Mavin Records' "Solar Plexus" compilation album.
