John Simon, better known as Joh Makini (born in Arusha), is a Tanzanian Swahili Hip Hop artist. He has been involved in music since 1995, but it wasn't until 2004 that his name became almost revered. This coincided with the release of 'Hawapendi,' which was quickly followed by 'Hao'.
In 2006, his single 'Chochote, Popote' cemented his reputation and became a massive hit throughout Tanzania. JohMakini's debut album, 'Zamu Yangu,' was released in late 2006. 'Chochote, popote,' 'Hao,' 'Tomorrow,' and 'Kama Kawa' were among the album's hits. This was followed by a string of hit singles such as 'Ufalme,' 'Muda,' 'Kila Wakati,' 'Niaje, ni vipi,' and 'Stimu zimelipiwa'.
To date, his new single 'Don't Bother' featuring AKA has become a national hit and has received widespread radio and television airplay throughout Africa.
