Willis Austin Chimano is a member of the popular all-boy band Sauti Sol and a vocalist, keytarist, and saxophonist.
Chimano was raised in Nairobi. He is the third of four children (two boys and two girls). Despite having a difficult childhood as an introvert, his parents offered him the best. He felt awkward as a child since he didn't like to play like other kids; instead, he liked to watch other kids play. His parents were fervent Christians who insisted on scheduled prayers every evening.

Relationship

Chimamo recently come out as gay in public. Chimano is shown posing with his Caucasian boyfriend in a photo that was publicly shared on the group's (Sauti Sol) twitter account and captioned 'Sol Family,' while the other three straight performers are featured in a loving stance with their loves.

In high school, Willis Chimano met his bandmates Savara Mudigi and Bien Baraza. Polycarp, who attended Strathmore School, joined the group after finishing high school. The group began with acapella and then moved on to Afro-pop music. In addition, their initial group name was 'Sauti' (a Swahili term for sound), and they later added 'Sol' (Spanish word which means sun). Sauti Sol, the ultimate name, was supposed to mean "voices in the sun."

Willis Chimano rose to prominence after releasing a successful song called'soma kijana' on the Sol Filosofia album in 2011. The song advocated for education for all adolescents in Kenya and throughout Africa.

So far, the band has released five albums. Mwanzo (2008), Sol Filosofia (2011), Live and Die in Africa (2015), African Sauce (2019), and Midnight Train (2019) are among them (2020).
