Chidinma Ekile (born 2 May 1991) is a talented Nigerian gospel singer, actress, and songwriter who goes by the stage name Chidinma. She rose to fame in 2010 after winning the third season of Project Fame West Africa.
Following the release of her "Emi Ni Baller" music video, she became the first female musician to reach the top of the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart.
She released the Sound Sultan-assisted single "Jankoliko" in 2011. Chidinma's self-titled debut album was released on the music platform Spinlet, and it was supported by the singles "Jankoliko," "Carry You Go," "Kedike," and "Run Dia Mouth." Sound Sultan, Tha Suspect, Olamide, and Muna make appearances on the album.
Chidinma Ekile's Early Life
Chidinma Ekile, known as Chidinma, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on May 2, 1991, in Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State. Her roots trace back to Imo State. She is the sixth child among seven siblings.
Born to Igbo parents, Martha Ekile (mother) and Hillary Ekile (father), she has two sisters, Chidinma and Chidiebere Aneke, also known as the Aneke Twins.
Chidinma's upbringing was under the guidance of her strict father. Her musical journey began at the age of six, and by the time she was 10, she had joined her church's choir.
Chidinma's Educational Background
Chidinma attended primary and secondary school in Ketu before moving to Ikorodu. Despite initially declining her admission to the University of Lagos, she eventually enrolled due to her Project Fame West Africa progress. She has always been committed to education. She acknowledged that music wasn't initially her plan, but her victory in the music competition altered her course.
Chidinma's Career Path
Prior to auditioning for the third season of Project Fame West Africa, Chidinma aspired to be part of the reality show. With support from a close friend, she left her home in Ikorodu and participated in the competition. She was among the thousands of contestants showcasing their talents that year.
Chidinma progressed to the Fame Academy stage, where she joined 17 other contestants. Over a span of 10 weeks, professionals in the music industry mentored the participants, covering voice coaching, motivational speaking, established musicians' insights, and music business aspects.
In addition to the coaching, participants learned choreography and engaged in rigorous rehearsals. On September 26, 2010, Chidinma emerged as the winner of the competition, earning various prizes, including ₦2.5 million, a 2011 Toyota RAV4, and a production deal. In May 2013, she signed an endorsement contract with MTN Nigeria.
True to her commitment, Chidinma eventually transitioned to the Gospel Music Industry after joining Eezee Conceptz, a gospel music production agency.
Chidinma embarked on her eponymous debut studio album, "Chidinma," following a collaborative project with another season 3 finalist. The album's release was scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011. She mentioned putting considerable effort into the album and collaborating with producers like Cobhams Asuquo, Tee-Y Mix, WazBeat, and Oscar Heman Ackah.
She released singles like "Jankoliko" featuring Sound Sultan and "Carry You Go" on February 22, 2011, both produced by Oscar Heman Ackah. The music video for "Jankoliko," directed by Clarence Peters, was released on June 4, 2011. On October 11, 2011, "Kedike," meaning "Heartbeat," was released as the album's third single, produced by Cobhams Asuquo.

On September 14, 2012, she released "Emi Ni Baller" featuring Illbliss and Tha Suspect. The song was produced by Legendury Beatz and was well-received, ranking number 7 on Vanguard's Top 10 songs of 2013. The official remix, featuring Wizkid, was also produced by Legendury Beatz. The music video for "Emi Ni Baller," directed by Clarence Peters, was released on June 12, 2013.
In addition to these, Chidinma released several other singles like "Bless My Hustle," "Kite," "Jolly," and "Oh Baby." In 2017, she released the hit "Fallen In Love," which garnered over 77 million views on YouTube.
Chidinma's Acting Career
Chidinma began her acting journey by starring in the 2017 movie "The Bridge," directed by Kunle Afolayan.
Chidinma's Gospel Music Career
After a prolonged hiatus from the music scene, Chidinma reappeared in May 2021 to celebrate her 30th birthday, sharing photos on Instagram. She expressed regret over spending more than nine years in secular music and attributed her switch to gospel music to a newfound connection with God and her deepened understanding of her Christian faith.
To mark her entry into the Nigerian gospel music realm, Chidinma released her debut gospel single titled "Jehovah Over Do" on May 2, 2021. She subsequently released "The New Season" EP on August 23, 2021, consisting of six tracks and a bonus.

Chidinma remains single. Although rumors have linked her romantically with famous Nigerian musicians like Flavour and Wizkid in the past.
