On Tuesday night, trailblazing prodigy Nelly Chepchirchir stamped her authority once more with a victory in the 1500m at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial, World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, in Szekesfehervar, Hungary.

With her flawless performances, the young athlete is eagerly following in the footsteps of double-world record holder Faith Kipyegon. Chepchirchir floored the oldies in Hungary to win the 1500m title and set a new meeting record in 4:00.18.
Brenda Chebet, a compatriot who has also proven to be unstoppable, followed her closely, setting a new Personal Best time of 4:01.25. Winnie Nanyondo of Uganda finished third in 4:01.96.

The Kenyan duo will compete alongside double World Champion Kipyegon at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, hoping to lead a Kenyan podium sweep.

Chepchirchir started her season strong, finishing second at the Kip Keino Classic before winning the 800m at the Grifone Meeting 15 days later. Three days later, she competed in the Montreuil International Meeting and won the race.

The youngster then ran her first ever sub-four-minute performance at the FBK Games in Hengelo, finishing second in 3:58.96 behind Sifan Hassan.

Her second sub-four-minute performance came in the 1500m at the World Championships National Trials at the Nyayo National Stadium, where she won in 3:59.77.

Chebet, the reigning World Under-20 champion, has yet to run under four minutes but has impressed with her endurance thus far. 

Her season began with a victory in the mixed relay at the World Cross-country Championships.

She has yet to win a 1500m race, but she has finished second or third in the majority of them. Her worst performance this season came in the Kip Keino Classic, where she finished 10th.
