Rita Tinina, a well-known journalist for Nation Television (NTV), passed suddenly in Nairobi.
When Ms. Tinina, 46, did not show up for work on Sunday as planned at the Nation Center, a welfare check at her Kileleshwa residence revealed she was dead.
Editor-in-chief of Nation Media Group Joe Ageyo remarked, "We received the sad news this morning that our colleague Rita Tinina had passed away in her house."
"The information we have so far is that she was fine all of yesterday but unfortunately, was found unresponsive this morning."
According to the police, Ms. Tinina may have died while she was sleeping.
"According to her sister's health history, she had a terrible fever that had started five days ago and was experiencing epilepsy. A police report on the death states, "No physical injuries found on the body."
"The deceased... was found unconscious in her bed inside her bedroom in her house at Brooklyn Apartments."
Ms. Tinina worked for the Nation Media Group as the output producer for broadcast platforms until her passing.
Her daughter, who is eight years old, is left behind. The family has asked to remain private during this trying time.
"This is indeed a tragic development and I request us to be calm as we await more information," added Ageyo.
After working as a senior reporter at KTN, a part of the Standard Group, Ms. Tinina returned to NTV.
The seasoned senior writer was well-known for her engrossing news pieces that consistently sparked national dialogues.
Her extensive coverage of the prosecution of six Kenyans at the International Criminal Court in The Hague for their alleged roles in the 2007–08 post–election violence that resulted in the deaths of over 1,133 persons and the displacement of over 650,000 others will go down in history.
Additionally, Ms. Tinanah shed information on the Yaku community's declining population in Laikipia County.
In addition to her many other outstanding works, Kenyans praised her for her deft wordplay and scriptwriting, which helped her advance as an editor.
Among the national leaders who expressed their sorrow for Ms. Tinina were President William Ruto and Leader of the Opposition, Raila Odinga.
"I send my deepest sympathies to Rita Tinina's family, friends, and coworkers. She was a TV journalist pioneer and trailblazer. "May Rita rest in peace," tweeted Dr. Ruto on Monday.
"Her passing leaves a void in the industry, yet her legacy of storytelling and integrity will endure," stated Mr. Odinga in a statement on Sunday.
Eliud Owalo, the cabinet secretary for information, praised Ms. Tinina's significant contributions to journalism.
"Her commitment to honesty, morality, and the quest of excellence in reporting will live on," Mr. Owalo stated.
Her coworkers remembered Ms. Tinina as a dependable and industrious journalist.
"The news of Ms. Tinina's passing in her Kileleshwa apartment has left us all in shock and sorrow," stated Zubeida Kananu, head of the Kenya Editors' Guild (KEG).
Ms. Kananu referred to Ms. Tinina as a renowned television journalist in Kenya, pointing out that the late woman demonstrated her skill and commitment to the journalism industry for almost twenty years.
Rita imparted certain lessons to us, and we ought to heed them. We are finding it very difficult to accept this great loss. Dann Mwangi, Lead Editor of Broadcast News at NMG, expressed his condolences to the family and friends.
"It's still unbelievable how quickly good people go. I remember the kind of trust you had in me and in the work we did. Words fail me." "T9, I will always remember you," journalist Ken Mijungu stated.
Rita Tinina's breaking of the glass ceiling is commendable. Ayub Abdikadir of Citizen TV stated, "The profession has lost a resourceful and a woman made of steel."
