The school was closed and students were sent home while the cause of the illness was investigated. The government previously linked the disease outbreak to water contamination at the institution, which resulted in typhoid fever and amebiasis. A cholera outbreak was also discovered among the students.
In Chuka Sub-county, Tharaka Nithi County, Mukuuni Boys' High School has been shut down due to an outbreak of a disease exhibiting symptoms similar to those of cholera.
The County Director of Education, Bridget Wambua, has confirmed the incident, stating that over 40 students have been taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital and Chuka Nursing Home with stomach pains, diarrhea, and vomiting.
According to Wambua, the school administration suspects that the institution's water supply may have been contaminated by hazardous materials as a result of a nearby road construction project.
Three students were admitted to Chuka Nursing Home, while the remaining students were treated and discharged. All 950 students at the school have been sent home as a precaution.
The actual cause of the deaths
Now, CDC has moved with speed to analyze the cause of the disease. They have found out that the children consumed contaminated water that resulted in typhoid and amoeba bacteria
