There have been circulating social media posts going round that a woman named Nelly Chebet cancelled her wedding with Amos Rono just days before in Bomet county. While it's true the wedding was cancelled as confirmed by the wedding committee chair, the reasons behind it were just speculative.
One of them was that she had visited her ex-boyfriend the night before cancellation and it seems things did not go well after that. Their love was rekindled beyond bridegroom's measure.
Alternately, is that she grew cold feet. That could possibly have come from the most recent conducts of the future-husband.
A pastor whose church was scheduled to host a wedding in Bomet County that was cancelled at the last minute has denied claims that the two lovers had disagreements.
AGC Kapsoyo Pastor Clement Chalulot stated that the allegations are false because the two are in talks and are awaiting a date to exchange their marriage vows.
Chalulot stated that the wedding was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances until all parties met all legal requirements.
"The presiding reverend advised us to push forward the wedding to a later date but not to cancel it completely as alleged by most of the people," she went on to say.
In the presence of his father, Rev Charles Kosgey, she spoke to journalists at her home in Kapletundo ward, Bomet central sub-county.
She stated that they had been planning the wedding for two months and had even formed a WhatsApp group to help with the planning.
"As of Monday, we are waiting for communication from the church so that we can see how far the process of the occasion is," she said.
Amos, on the other hand, did not return our calls.
Kosgey, a pastor at Chebirbelek AGC, said he was called by the Tenwek region's area director and told that the wedding had been postponed because the two lovers had only known each other for six months.
"The two young people needed to have undergone guidance and counselling on marriage during the courtship period before tying the knot," Kosgey said.
He stated that he had already received the dowry from the bridegroom's family as a token of appreciation for his daughter and expressed hope that the wedding would take place soon.
"The postponement has left us as a family in despair and destruction because we were ready for my daughter's big day and had mobilized more than 100 people to attend the wedding ceremony," she went on to say.
He emphasized the importance of pre-marital counseling for all young people before embarking on the journey of marriage.
