Before the international break, it appeared that Newcastle United and Chelsea were heading in opposite directions.

As a result, Saturday's match at St James' Park has the potential to be an exciting one.

The London giants began this season as a continuation of last season's disaster, and their massively expensively assembled squad appeared to be heading for more mediocrity.

The Toon Army has had a strange season, lacking consistency. They have produced some outstanding performances and results, including victories over Arsenal in the league, City and Manchester United in the League Cup, and PSG at home in the Champions League.

But they've also made some blunders, not least in their most recent defeat at Bournemouth, which prompted Kieran Trippier and Geordie fans to exchange 'words.' It's not a good look.
