THE END OF EURO 2024 QUALIFICATION CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH FOR NORTHERN IRELAND, and you have a feeling more heartbreak awaits them when Denmark visits.

So far, Michael O'Neill's second coming has been more David Icke than Jesus of Nazareth, with the Irish picking up just one point against whipping boys San Marino.

I predicted Finland to pile on the misery in Helsinki on Friday night, and it was yet another bad night for O'Neill and his players, who were defeated 4-0. Any hopes of reaching the finals in Germany were long gone, and it's now a matter of salvaging some pride ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Denmark were the surprise package of Euro 2020, and only a controversial extra-time penalty against England in the semi-finals stopped Kasper Hjulmand's exciting young side.

However, they flopped at the Qatar World Cup, finishing bottom of an easy group, and have struggled to negotiate a Euro qualifying group that also appeared to be fairly straightforward when the draw was made.

Denmark booked their place in the finals with a 2-1 home win over Slovenia on Friday, bringing up two bets for our man Gabriel, and will finish top of the group regardless of what happens in the final round of fixtures.

Hjulmand may make a few changes for the game in Belfast, but the Danes should have too much firepower for this demoralized and injury-plagued Northern Ireland side.

How the bookmakers see it

Denmark is the odds-on favourite for this one, and most bookmakers have them at 4/6 to win in Belfast. Northern Ireland is priced at 17/4 at Coral, while the draw is priced at 3/1 at popular bookmakers.

Face to face

In the overall head-to-head, these two teams have one win apiece and three draws. Denmark has yet to win in Belfast, having drawn 1-1 in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers before falling 2-1 on the road to Euro 2008.

Players to keep an eye on

Both managers could make a few changes for what is essentially a dead rubber, but O'Neill is limited by injuries. Callum Marshall of West Ham came off the bench in Helsinki and could get a start here, with the 18-year-old forward 7/2 at SkyBet to score anytime.

Mohamed Daramy has shown plenty of promise for the Danes, and the 21-year-old could be unleashed after being benched in midweek. The Reims striker is 5/2 to score his first senior international goal, according to Coral.

Is there anything else that catches your eye?

It's difficult to predict how many goals will be scored in this game because it's a dead rubber, but Hjulmand usually sets his team up to attack, and the Irish defense looked extremely vulnerable in that humbling in Helsinki. Over 2.5 goals looks like good value at 20/23 with Betfair, and when combined with a Danish win, the odds jump to 17/10 with Paddy Power.

After qualifying for the finals, the Danes can play freely, and I like the look of the 13/8 on offer at Paddy Power for them to score in both halves.
