Ycee's Biography in Summary

Ycee is a well-known Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and Afropop singer. Oludemilade Martin Alejo is his real name. He rose to prominence after receiving two nominations for his song "Condo," which features Patoranking's vocals, at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Ycee Early Childhood and Education

Ycee was born on January 29, 1993, in Festac, Lagos State, Nigeria, in the South Western region. He received his primary education at Dr. Soyemi Memorial Nursery and Primary School and his secondary education at Nigerian Navy Secondary School. Ycee continued his education at the University of Lagos, where he majored in marine biology and graduated with a B.Sc.

Ycee Career

Ycee began his music career as an unknown rapper in 2012 before signing a record deal with Tinny Entertainment. He temporarily stopped making music after being admitted to the University of Lagos due to academic obligations. Ycee's song "Condo" was released in May 2015. This song was nominated for Best Collaboration of the Year and Best Music Video of the Year at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He released his single "Jagaban" on July 20, 2015. Nigerian rapper Olamide requested a feature on the remix. He received additional recognition after being nominated for Revelation of the Year at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards.

He was also nominated for Best Artist in the African Pop category at the 2015 All Africa Music Awards.

Ycee's headline performance at the O2 Academy in Islington on January 12, 2018 was completely sold out. During the show, his labelmates Bella Alubo, Sona, Eugy, Ms. Banks, and Flosha also performed. He announced on Instagram that he would be leaving Tinny Entertainment on January 15, 2019. Following that, he established Ain't Nobody Badder Than (ANBT), his record label.

Ycee's first studio album, Ycee vs. Zaheer, was released on November 8, 2019. Hip-hop, Trap, Afrobeats, Afro-house, hyphy, R&B, and alto are all combined.

The album follows his 8-track debut EP First Wave from 2017 and his Late Night Vibrations collaboration EP with Bella Alubo from 2018.

The album was produced by Adey, Jay Bidz, Ballertosh, Fanatix, BeatsbyKarma, Syn X, Krizbeatz, Jay Popping, Buzzin Producer, AP Da Don, Two Seven, Elmore, Willis Give Dem, and KO. The album features collaborations with Davido, Niniola, Phyno, Ms. Banks, and Dapo Tuburna.

Ycee has appeared on notable recordings that have helped up-and-coming artists get noticed since gaining notoriety, as well as throughout his career.
He appeared on songs to help his labelmate Dapo Turbuna's "Nothing" Remix break in 2016, Label Mate Bella on Radio in 2017, and then collaborated with her on the EP Late Night Vibrations. Ycee appeared alongside Dapo Tuburna and Karma on Arosino's Big Man Doingz. Some speculate that it was his way of paying it forward to upcoming artists, as he had previously benefited from Olamide's remix of his breakout song, Jagaban.
