Thabethe attended Mondeor High School. The institution from which she graduated asked her to give a speech to grade 12 students prior to their final matriculation exams in 2018. Thando attended the University of Johannesburg after finishing high school, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting in 2011.
Thabethe lived with her mother for the majority of her adolescent years because her father died when she was only 13 years old. Thabethe performed in theater productions during her adolescent years before landing her first TV role at the age of 14.
During her college years, she also performed in theater plays at the UJ Arts Center and worked as a radio DJ and newsreader at UJFM, a community radio station located at the University of Johannesburg.
Thando Thabethe's professional life
Thabethe began her radio career in 2008 at UJFM before moving to the well-known youth radio station YFM in 2011, when she was in her final year of high school. She also played Thando Nkosi, the main character, in the three-season sitcom My Perfect Family.
She later began working for 5FM on The Roger Goode Show in 2013. Other well-known pieces include Club 808, Intersexions, Ngempela, Kowethu, 1s and 2s, and Single Guys.
She played Nolwazi Buzo in the South African serial opera Generations: The Legacy from 2014 to 2017. When Thabethe was chosen as a Nivea brand ambassador in 2014, she became the company's first African brand ambassador.
She joined 5FM in 2016 and began hosting The Thando Thabooty Show and The Thabooty Drive in 2017. Mrs. Right Guy, her debut feature film, was released in 2016 and starred Dineo Moeketsi, Thapelo Mokoena, and Lehasa Moloi.
She co-hosted the South African Music Awards in 2016 and the South African Film and Television Awards in 2017. Thando Bares All, Thabethe's chat show that debuted on TLC on June 2, 2018, aired its first episode.
In 2018, she portrayed Linda Ndlovu in the drama-thriller series Housekeepers. She reprised her role in the show's second season in 2019. In 2019, she starred as Zinhle Malinga, the main character in the box office smash Love Lives Here.
In 2019, she was nominated for Best TV Host and Best Talk Show for Thando Bares All, which aired on TLC. She later won the award for Best Talk Show.
Thabethe left 5FM in March 2020, five years after starting there. She hosted the station's final Thabooty show on March 5, 2020. She subsequently announced her resignation on Twitter on April 7, 2020.
Thabete took over the drive time slot on March 23, 2021, at 3 p.m., when DJ Fresh left 947. On May 12, 2022, she was named a Miss South Africa 2022 judge.

Her parents are unknown at the moment, but her father died when she was 13 years old. Sibu Thabethe, her brother, was killed by armed robbers in 2015.
