Thami Mbongo (born 29 January 1979 in Mbekweni, Paarl) is a well-known figure in South African entertainment. He works as an actor, educator, drama facilitator, playwright, and director. He is well-known among television viewers for his role on Shoot Stars. In 2007, Thami played Moses Gumede in the e.tv soccer drama series.
Thamsanqa Mbongo was born on January 29, 1979, in Mbekweni, Paarl, Western Cape. He grew up in the country's third-oldest city and European settlement.
He enrolled at Langabuya Primary School to lay the groundwork for his academics. He continued his academic pursuits and matriculated at Desmond Mpilo Tutu High School in 1997.
In 1998, he enrolled in the Arts and Media Access Centre in Cape Town, which later became the Community Arts Project. He also directed a two-year program at the University of Cape Town (UCT) from 1999 to 2001. He attended the school to pursue a Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama.
Thami made his screen debut in the KFC commercial Ayavaya Amafong Kong. From 2001 to 2002, it aired on SABC. More acting opportunities have since come his way. He has appeared on the local screen in a number of commercials and TV shows as a guest actor.
The accomplished actor has appeared in films such as Madam & Eve, Interrogation Room, and Khululeka. He was also cast in Mazinyo Dot Q and Stokvel.
He has also worked for Spar and the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism. He has also done numerous commercials for clients such as;

He is also the artistic director of the Baxter's Zabalaza Theatre Festival. In 2016, it received the Fleur du Cap Innovation in Theatre award. He played Pastor Absolom in Isithembiso, a Mzansi Magic soap opera. He appeared in seasons two and three. He first appeared on the show in Season 2, Episode 254.
His two decades in show business have earned him both recognition and fame. He won Best Solo Performance for his role in A Plague of Heroes at the Durban Theatre Awards in 2011. Earlier in 2007, he received an Aardklop Award for Best Actor in an Ensemble for Karoo Moose. He received the Brett Goldin Bursary Award in 2008. Thami also spent a month with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. For his contribution to the arts, he received the Western Cape Cultural Affairs Ministerial Award in 2016.
