Silvia Njoki once enrolled to become a nun, but she had no idea that the world had other plans for her. Her passion for fashion took over, and her influence led to her winning the Best Fashion Award and Best Blog of the Year at the recent BAKE Awards.
Silvia realized she had a talent for fashion creativity during her high school years at Narumoru Girls High School, but because few people were interested in fashion blogging and fashion had not yet become a widespread phenomenon, she only used it as a hobby.
She attended Nairobi University to study Food Science and Technology.
It was during this time that she learned more about the fashion industry and began her modeling career. Silvia began participating in fashion photo shoots and Miss Nairobi beauty pageants. During one of the FAFA photo shoots, she met Hellen Jennings, who invited her to London for a six-month internship.
Here, she learned the fundamentals of fashion firsthand and even had the opportunity to write for Arise Magazine, her first foray into fashion writing. Silvia's parents saw her dedication to fashion and enrolled her in London's Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, where she honed her fashion and design skills.
Silvia returned to Kenya and worked as a stylist for the Standard newspaper, which led to high-profile styling opportunities. She previously worked as a Tusker project fame stylist for renowned fashion designer and stylist Connie Aluoch, which provided her with the opportunity to become a stylist for the TPF 5 and TPF 6.
It wasn't until recently that she started her fashion blog, silvianjoki.com, where she regularly shares fashion tips. This platform has not only given her a large following, but it has also introduced many women to the world of fashion.
