Oritse Femi's Biography in Summary

Oritsefemi Majemite Ekele, born 5 January 1985, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and performer better known by his first name, Oritse Femi. He is best known for his rendition of Fela Kuti's "Double Wahala" song.

At the 2014 City People Entertainment Awards, his rendition of the song earned him two nominations, including Most Popular Song of the Year. At the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, he was also named Indigenous Artist of the Year. He released the remix for his version of the song, which featured D'banj, in 2014.

Oritsefemi, his mother's third child, was born and raised in Ajegunle in a polygamous family of 25.

He originates from the Itsekiri ethnic group in North Warri, Delta State. He attended Mayday Secondary School briefly in Ikoyi, but due to financial constraints, his parents moved him to Tolu Primary School in Ajegunle. His primary education was completed at Army Children School.

He acquired his secondary school certificate from Randle Secondary School and initially enrolled to study law at Delta State University in Abraka. However, he left to focus on his music career. His inspirations include Fela Kuti, Daddy Showkey, and Sizzla Kalonji.

During his school days, he honed his musical skills, performing at various events and parties. His first recorded track was "Boys dey Binu," and he was actively involved in Ajegunle's Cherubim and Seraphim choirs.

He attended a music school in Ajegunle run by Johnny Napp, known for bringing Jamaican artists to nurture local talent. This exposure influenced his early music style, fusing reggae into his sound. He released two albums with his partner Chibudo, the first titled "Boys Dey Binu."

In 2006, The Junglist Boys disbanded due to a disagreement between the members. Oritse Femi pursued a solo career, releasing "Elewon" and "Flog Politician," gaining popularity in Ajegunle. However, his former partner, Chi-Junglist, released a diss track in response.

Oritse Femi's debut solo single was "Flog Politician," inspired by Nigeria's political corruption. His third album, "Elewon," focused on addressing corrupt leaders. His second album, "Wicked World," explored global wickedness, featuring the hit track "Mercy of the Lord."

Depression led him away from his religious upbringing, but he now considers himself a gospel hip-hop artist. He has released albums like "Wicked World," "Musical Taliban," and "Money Stops Nonsense," sharing the same name as his record label. Collaborations include Da Grin, Reminisce, and Pasuma Wonder.

His hit single "Double Wahala" is a remake of Fela Kuti's song, inspired by the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians. His third album bears the same title. He released "Sexy Ladies" featuring Davido in 2014.
