In just about three years since establishing her career in Kenya’s music industry, Nadia Mukami is already recognized as one of the new voices to look out for in the region. The singer, who is also is a talented songwriter has a number of hit singles including “Si Rahisi”, “African Lover” and “Yule Yule”. She makes her debut feature on Coke Studio Africa 2019 in the Big Break segment, alongside Juma Jux (Tanzania) and Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique), while being produced by Tanzania’s Lizer. CAREER Nadia took up music professionally in 2015 when she recorded her single “Barua Ya Siri” while still in university. Her breakthrough single “Kesi” received massive airplay and got her an opportunity to perform alongside Kenya’s biggest stars at countrywide platforms like Blaze by Safaricom (Kisumu), The Nile Festival and The Luo Festival, among others. A year later, she emerged as the winner on KTN’s Kipawa Show and went up to the finals of the Jenga Talanta show — a true display of her rising star power. Two years into her career, Nadia got her first signing with record label Hailemind Entertainment, and has since released three great projects under the new management. MUSIC INTERESTS Nadia’s musical style is defined by smooth urban sounds fused with poetry and afro-pop. She has been a poet from high school and thus the rhyme influences in her music. Having started her music career at the age of 17, she drew inspiration from her father who listened to Taarab music collections, as well as music from Tanzanian songstress Ray C. BACKGROUND Born in Nairobi as Mukami Mwendo, Nadia attended Kari Primary School and later Mount Laverna School for her secondary education. She would later enroll at Maseno University to pursue a degree in BBA - Finance option. She recorded her first song “Narudi” that tackles the situation of a prodigal lover. While at university, she put her music on hold and joined Equator FM - a campus radio station, where she hosted a Saturday show called ‘Saturday Hip-hop Count’. She would later leave media to kick start her career in music.   "It was till they witnessed me on TV that they resolved to give it a chance, and now they are one of my greatest supporters." Since then, she released even more significant projects that later branded her name as one of the reckoning women in the Kenyan music. To her, Maseno University turned out to be the cradle of her singing interest.
