Juma has a long diplomatic career, having served in Addis Abeba as Kenya's concurrent ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, the African Union, the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). She was sworn in as the Kenya Ministry of Defence's Principal Secretary on June 27, 2013, and served in that role until she was transferred to the Kenya Ministry of Finance.
