The Kenya Air Force is led by its commanders. The post was established in 1964, with Group Captain Ian Stockwell of the Royal Air Force serving as the first commander. Maj. Gen. Fatumah Ahmed is the current commander of the Air Force, having been appointed on May 2, 2024.
Maj Gen John Omenda, the commander of Kenya's air force, has been promoted and named the VCDF.
The promotion and appointment were made by President William Ruto, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
This follows a meeting of the Defense Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
Gen Kahari had some luck.
This is because, in the past, all military commanders were required to have served as service commanders, but he did not.
He was previously the deputy commander of the Kenya Navy before being promoted and posted to a defence college.
To be a general in any military formation is probably the highest honor you can ever hope for in the field of arms.
Brigadier J Omenda joined the Kenya Defence Forces (Kenya Air Force) in February 1987. He is an experienced F5 fighter pilot and a certified flight instructor. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Kenya Air Force Commander, he served as Officer Commanding the Fighter Squadron, Commanding Officer Fighter Wing, and Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base. He married and has four children.
