What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion, to me, is a form of communication. It's a way of expressing who you are without needing to say a word. When I walk into a room, my attire speaks volumes about my personality and style.
Why did you choose a career in fashion?
Fashion is like that forbidden fruit your parents warned you about, but you tried it anyway and got hooked for life. Honestly, when I entered the world of fashion, I didn't anticipate staying in it for so long. I started as a model, thinking it would be a temporary phase, but here I am, years later, still deeply involved in the industry.
You've transitioned from modeling. Why?
It was simply time for a change. Growth and evolution are natural, positive aspects of life. Let's just say that chapter of my life came to a close.
What else do you do besides blogging?
I work as a Marketing and PR consultant at African Elite Group Ltd, where I handle luxury brands like Moët & Chandon. It's a challenging yet fascinating role that keeps me engaged.
Was marketing always your career choice?
Not at all. Initially, I aspired to pursue Chemical Engineering and even studied three sciences in school. My journey into marketing is a lengthy tale for another occasion. Nevertheless, I'm thoroughly content with where I've landed. Currently, I'm pursuing my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the United States International University.
You've received awards for your blogging. What challenges come with being at the top?
Winning awards is an incredible feeling, especially the recognition from the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE). It validates your hard work and dedication, motivating you to strive for even greater heights. However, with success comes the perpetual challenge of maintaining that momentum and continuously improving.
What kind of questions do your followers ask you?
I receive various inquiries, from how I managed to lose weight after childbirth to tips on staying fit. People also inquire about growing a successful blog and building a substantial following. One memorable encounter was when a stranger recognized me on the streets and questioned if I lived in Kenya because my photos seemed out of place for the country.
As a mother and wife, how has family life impacted you?
Motherhood has been an incredibly rewarding experience, grounding me and reminding me of my values. It fosters selflessness and a deeper understanding of others. Every decision I make now considers my son and husband, adding a new dimension of empathy and connection.
Do you plan to expand your family?
Not at the moment, I believe we're content with our current arrangement.
Are you skilled in the kitchen?
I do my best, though cooking isn't my preferred activity. However, I can handle myself well in the kitchen, despite having long, red nails. Baking is something I enjoy, especially when making treats for my son. Fortunately, my husband is an excellent cook, which relieves some kitchen duties for me.
Tell us about your childhood.
My upbringing was diverse and adventurous. Born in Machakos, raised in Mombasa, and now residing in Nairobi, my life has been a continuous journey. Spending time with my grandparents in Machakos while my parents lived in Mombasa created cherished memories of bus rides on the Akamba Bus Service.
