Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (born 3 May 1997) is a female long-distance runner from Kenya. At the 2017 World Cross Country Championships, she took bronze in the women's senior race. Rengeruk is a former World Under-18 3000m champion and World U20 Championship silver medalist.
Rengeruk was banned for ten months beginning in April 2022 due to the use of a hormone therapy drug.
Career
Rengeruk's first success came in 2013, when she won the Kenyan youth trials before defeating Ethiopia's Berhan Demiesa to win the 3000m title at the 2013 World Youth Athletics Championships. She finished fifth in the junior race at the African Cross Country Championships the following year, sharing team gold.
On her IAAF Diamond League debut in Doha, she pre-determined a win at the Kenyan junior trials with a 3000 m best of 8:53.41 minutes. However, at the 2014 World Junior Athletics Championships, she was beaten by American home athlete Mary Cain, leaving Rengeruk with a silver medal.
Rengeruk's 2015 season was cut short due to injury, and she finished tenth in the junior race at the 2016 African Cross Country Championships. She did not place in the top three at the Kenyan junior track trials in June of that year.
In 2017, she emerged as a much improved senior athlete, beginning with runner-up finishes at the Discovery Cross Country and the Kenyan Cross Country Championships; she was the only athlete to keep pace with Irene Chepet Cheptai in the national race. Kenya's women's team was very strong for the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and Rengeruk took bronze in the senior race as part of a Kenyan sweep of the top six places, with Cheptai winning. Despite winning the 5000m at both the Kenyan Police Championships and the Kenyan Athletics Championships, Rengeruk was not selected for the World Championships at the trials meet.
She did well on the Diamond League circuit, finishing third at the Prefontaine Classic in 14:36.80 minutes and setting a personal best of 8:32.73 minutes in the 3000 m at the Herculis meet.
She won the Tuskys Wareng Cross Country and Campaccio races to start her 2017-18 cross country season.
She ran in the senior women's race at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, in 2019. She came in 12th place.
Doping ban
Rengeruk was banned from athletics for ten months beginning in April 2022 for using the hormone therapy drug Letrozole, it was announced in September 2022.
