John Kinuthia Makumi, also known as 'Mr Money,' was born in Kabete, Kiambu County in 1930 and spent the majority of his life there. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 to pursue his passion in business.
His initial business was selling chicken, which he would acquire at a reduced price in Kiambu County's interior communities and then resell at a profit in Kabete market.
Property and assets possessed by a billionaire
In the wealthy suburbs of Lavington, the billionaire left an indelible mark in the form of Lavington Mall, the area's largest mall. The impressive structure boasts plenty of parking, a sufficient water supply, a backup generator, CCTV, professionally maintained lifts, fire and safety features, and fire fighting equipment. The mall features urban housing retail establishments, beauty salons and restaurants, a supermarket, and a play area for children.
His other properties include a 200-acre plot of property in Loitoktok, Kajiado County, the Zadar building in Wangige, Kiambu County, the Fountain Church in Ngara Nairobi, and the forthcoming Wangige mall.
