Despite her recent fashion faux pas, Frida Mwaka remains one of Kenya's most stylish news anchors. Her outfits exude class, elegance, and whatever other adjectives you can come up with. Mwaka's career progression has been enviable and an inspiration to those who wish to follow in her footsteps. Aska Nyambeki shared her story with us.
The news anchor's rise to prominence was the result of hard work and consistency, both of which most of us lack.
Lofty Matambo, who was then working at Kenya Television Network (KTN), was introduced to her by a friend she was living with in Mombasa. Frida took advantage of her new celebrity friend by bombarding him with her videos. Lofty Matambo, the gracious man, would walk her through the necessary changes.
Fidel Odinga, the late son of ODM leader Raila Odinga, propelled her career to the big leagues. Frida claims that her co-anchor informed her that Fidel had died and urged her to do an item about it and share it the next day. She went to work, and her performance earned her a spot on Season 2 of KTN's the Presenter show. The Swahili news anchor previously worked for the now-defunct Kumbamba radio station.
Frida retired from KTN on March 21 after three years of service. She described her departure from the station that had nurtured her as follows:
Frida joined NTV with her mentor Lofty, and the two are paired up.
On Covid-19, the duo performed a song together.
Samuel Nguma Ndhuli, an architect, is the news anchor's husband. On November 30, 2019, the wedding ceremony took place at Mnarani Club in Kilifi County. This follows a traditional engagement ceremony on August 10 in Kibwezi, Makueni County.
The news anchor stated on Radio Maisha that she has not and will not use her husband's name because she has become a brand.
She denied reports that appeared on a section of blogs claiming she had dated Samuel for 17 years:
The couple went to the same Kilifi primary school and were even neighbors. For the next 13 years, the two would only meet on rare occasions and exchange pleasantries.
Her fashion sense was among the best until recently, when she appeared on live television looking less than professional. The internet was flooded with amusing memes and comments on a fashion-dominated social media banter.
