The subject of this article is DJ Evolve, who was shot in the leg by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's gun in 2018. A long and painful journey that began in 2018 has now reached a new chapter with the court's acquittal of Babu Owino. This article delves into DJ Evolve's biography, highlighting background information and the eighteen-page agreement that resulted in the court agreeing to an out-of-court settlement.
His late mother Mary Hongo and father John Orinda raised him. He has a brother named Andrew Orinda, who served as the DJ's spokesman and reporter during his hospitalization. Their mother, Mary Hongo, died on September 22, 2021, after collapsing.
Felix Orinda grew up with a strong interest in music and aspired to make a career out of it. This is what gave birth to DJ Evolve. He worked as a resident DJ at B-Club in Kilimani, where he was praised as a great performer and was dubbed "low-key-assassin." DJ Evolve and Babu Owino were close friends who frequently chatted and exchanged pleasantries at the club.
DJ Evolve got into a verbal argument with Babu Owino on the night of January 17, 2020, when the latter drew his gun and shot the DJ twice in the neck. The incident caused a commotion at the club. The DJ was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that would keep him bedridden for months.
The incident thrust him into the spotlight when he filed attempted murder charges against the Embakasi East Member of Parliament. Babu Owino was arrested and later released on cash bail of Ksh 10 million. The Orinda family kept the complaint as Felix recovered from his injuries in the hospital.
In a recent development, Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi declared that the MP had been acquitted after the two parties reached an eighteen-page agreement to settle the case outside of court. People were quick to accuse John Orinda, the victim's father, of accepting money in exchange for justice.
The Orinda family withdrew their complaint, clearing Owino on count one, but he will still face prosecution for disorderly conduct. The parties' agreement is still protected in the event that either party fails to comply with the terms stated therein.
Babu Owino is expected to pay DJ Evolve's Ksh 17 million medical bill and nursing costs as part of the agreement. In addition, the MP will pay the DJ's two-year rent in advance, establish a DJ academy, buy him a Toyota Noah, all of his necessary drugs and bills, and build him two houses. The Orinda family, on the other hand, will be required not to file another lawsuit.
