Daddy Owen's Biography in Summary

Daddy Owen is a Kenyan artist that specializes in contemporary gospel music. He has published a number of songs, some of which have been national hits. Daddy Owen has released five albums: Haijaisha, Vanity, Son of Man, Saluti, and System ya Kapungala.

Saluti was nominated in three categories for the Groove Awards and won them all. He was also named male artist of the year at the Groove Awards in 2009 and 2011.

Despite his career achievement, his life has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. After failing to obtain a tertiary education, he relocated to Nairobi, where he worked as a tout and pickpocket. A near-death encounter

Education & Early Life

Daddy Owen was born as the second child in a family of four brothers and a sister in Kakamega, Kenya. His elder brother, Rufftone, is a well-known Kenyan gospel musician who influenced Owen's career.

Eshihiru Secondary School was attended by the successful singer. His family was not wealthy, thus he could not afford to continue his education. He moved to Nairobi, like many other young people who are unable to further their studies but want to succeed in life.

In Nairobi, the singer's life was not easy. He worked as a matatu tout, but his pay was inadequate to meet his needs and maintain his family.

Many people who relocate to the capital city hope to improve their lives. When life becomes difficult, most people become frustrated, and some resort to small crime to survive. Unfortunately, mob justice kills the majority of them. Daddy Owen would have become a statistic. He was almost lynched by a mob after resorting to petty criminality to augment his income. He had admitted to picking pockets in downtown Nairobi until one day, in the blink of an eye, he was surrounded by a mob and viciously thrashed.

Daddy Owen Music Career

Even while he was in high school, Daddy Owen had a passion for music. He could sing a few songs, but recording them was difficult because he came from a poor family and couldn't afford it. He has frequently thanked his brother Rufftone with supporting him in pursuing a music career.

Haijalisha, his debut album, was published in 2004. He's been delivering hit after hit since then. Among his well-known tunes are:

  • System ya kapungala
  • Mbona
  • Vanity
  • Tobina
  • Saluti
  • Kazi ya Msalaba

Dr. Ofweneke and Dunco served as emcees for the beautiful invite-only ceremony. Popular personalities attended, and Mercy Masika and Sauti Sol performed brilliantly. The groom's best man was his brother Rufftone, and the wedding ceremony was spectacular.

The couple met at Java Coffee House in 2012. They have openly expressed their love for each other on several occasions since then. This is why reports of a split hit the blogosphere and social media pages as a surprise to many.

 Daddy Owen Philanthropy

The contemporary gospel musician is a huge supporter of charity. In 2012, he created the second chance campaign to assist women living with cervical cancer and to raise awareness by pushing others to be screened. Owen is also the creator of the Malaika Awards. The award attempts to recognize artists with impairments. Another program he started was the Macho Macho, which aimed to aid people with vision problems in Kakamega.
