Apostle James Ng’ang’a's Biography in Summary

He's been branded "the false Kenyan pastor" by many. He refers to himself as the "chief commander," and controversy appears to be his middle name. For a long time, Pastor James Maina Ng'ang'a has made news for his antics both within and outside of his church. He has been spotted abusing members of his congregation on numerous occasions, yet they continue to flock to church every Sunday. He once mocked a woman for wearing torn shoes to his church. He takes the lead with his chin and makes no apologies for it.

Humble beginnings

Pastor Ng'ang'a was born in 1954 and has had a difficult life. He was already on the wrong side of the law at the age of 18, resulting to his first arrest. He became a prisoner after that and was held in several jails, including Shimo La Tewa. Pastor James accepted Christ while in prison and became a street preacher after his release in the 1990s.

Pastor Nganga Ministry

Before relocating to Nairobi, the ex-prisoner worked as a street preacher in Mombasa. He created Neno Evangelism Ministry in Mombasa in 1992 before coming to Nairobi. He quit Bishop Wafula's ministry in Mombasa. In Nairobi, he built his first church in 2005. The ministry has expanded and now has branches throughout the country, making Ng'ang'a a household name.

A typical church Sunday includes a lengthy sermon followed by a deliverance service. In the latter, the apostle is seen praying for people and casting out demons while occasionally slapping the possessed. Following deliverance, many testify about how they feel much better and are cured, and so on. He is also the only one who can wear shoes to the altar; everyone else must remove their shoes.

Controversies

The self-proclaimed apostle has been on the spotlight numerous times. At one point a woman claimed she was paid to fake illness and healing.

In 2020, he was involved in a road accident where he killed  pedestrian while drunk driving.

Sometime also a businessman exposed him for conning him 5.5 million Kenya shillings.
