Mwakideu attended Shimo La Tewa High School and was expelled following a dispute with the principal. The presenter recalled on Miss Trudy's YouTube channel how his mother drove him to school and just paid his admittance fee because she couldn't afford to pay his tuition cost. Mwakideu was able to continue his studies because of his acting abilities, despite the fact that the principal would constantly remind him that he owed money, especially when he went to serve food.

After high school, he completely shifted his concentration to acting. He did not go to college and ended up working in radio by happenstance.

Mwakideu began his career as an actor. He polished his acting talents throughout high school and continued to pursue his passion for the arts after finishing his O-levels. He appeared in a number of plays both in and out of Mombasa. His major break came when he was offered the opportunity to compose a radio advertisement screenplay for Baraka FM. They did such a good job with his staff that the satisfied client decided to keep them.

In an interview with Ghanaian Wode Maya, the broadcaster explained how he got into radio by coincidence. He thanked Peter Musembi, the then-Baraka FM news editor who is currently working at BBC London, with realizing he had a radio voice and urging him to improve.

His big break came when the president visited Mombasa to inaugurate the Mombasa Show Ground. The news anchor had left to cover the event, so someone had to step in. Mwakideu was given the chance and did not disappoint.

Musembi handed him the script and instructed him to read it because the news anchor was running late.

The journalist did not take any journalism classes and instead learned on the job. He worked for DW in Germany and Australia for six months. His contract with DW was about to be extended, but he declined, claiming that what he earned in Kenya was over 500% more than what he earned in Germany. He's been on the air for 16 years.
