Innocent Ujah Idibia (born September 18, 1975) is a Nigerian-born Afrobeat singer, musician, songwriter, producer, and philanthropist better known by his stage name 2Baba.
He is also a business owner, humanitarian, and social activist. He is regarded as one of the most well-known singers in the African music industry. He was the first MTV Europe winner.
2Baba, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, was born in Jos, Nigeria. He belongs to the Idoma ethnic group from the southern region of Benue state. During his formative years, he attended Mount St. Gabriel’s Secondary School in Makurdi, Benue State.
He continued his education at the Institute of Management & Technology (IMT) in Enugu, where he pursued a National Diploma course in Business Administration and Management. While in school, he showcased his musical talents at organized events and parties.
However, he eventually left his studies to fully devote himself to his music career. In 1996, he adopted the stage name "2face" to differentiate his personal life from his professional persona. Later, in 2016, he officially changed his stage name to "2Baba."
Following the disbandment of Plantashun Boyz in 2004 due to internal conflicts, 2Baba embarked on a solo career. His debut solo album, "Face 2 Face," released in 2004, marked his emergence as a successful solo artist. He followed this with his second album, "Grass 2 Grace," in 2006. Notably, he founded the record label HYPERTEK ENTERTAINMENT and has been associated with the Sony All African One Project featuring other African artists.
Apart from his music career, 2Baba has been a brand ambassador for several prominent companies including Guinness and Nigerian Breweries. He became the official brand ambassador for Oraimo in 2019.
2Baba is married to Nigerian actress and model Annie Macaulay-Idibia. They tied the knot in a private ceremony in Lagos on May 2, 2012. They later held another ceremony in Dubai, UAE, in March 2013. The couple has two daughters, Olivia and Isabella.
Before his marriage, 2Baba was involved with Sumbo Ajala-Adeoye and Pero Adeniyi, with whom he has other children. He has faced life-threatening situations, including surviving gunshots during a robbery incident in Lagos.
2Baba's journey to financial success was marked by challenges, but he has managed to become one of the wealthiest African musicians, with an estimated net worth of $15 million.
