Mandago in trouble as DPP orders his arrest for Finland scholarship Saga

During a public lecture by former public service chief Ambassador Francis Muthaura, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak stated that the commission had recommended the prosecution of Kenyans suspected of graft.
Mbarak stated that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had approved the inquiry file for Mandago and three other county officials for prosecution.

Mandago will face charges including conspiracy to commit an economic crime, abuse of office, breach of trust, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and uttering false documents in violation of Section 353 of the penal code.

What was discovered in the Mandago probe?

The EACC is looking into the KSh 1.1 billion scholarship program established by the Uasin Gishu County Government during Mandago's reign.

The Finland scholarship saga is listed as one of 39 cases investigated by the ODPP in the EACC quarterly report, with eight cases approved for prosecution out of 43 forwarded by the commission.

According to the investigation, KSh 284.4 million was paid to universities in Finland and Canada, KSh 315.9 million to foreign agencies, and KSh 50.7 million to local agencies.

In cash investigations, KSh 308.9 million and KSh 74.2 million were allegedly withdrawn.
 

Oscar Sudi requests that Mandago sell land in order to repay his parents.
Earlier, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi asked Mandago to sell land and reimburse parents who lost money in the Finland Saga.

Sudi stated that the four people whose names have been mentioned in the Finland education scandal must ensure that they are reimbursed because they are not poor.

The MP also confirmed that money was taken from the accounts and that evidence was available to the public.
