10 Habits To Maintain Good Health And Wellness


By taking care of your health you are able to take care of your family members, friends, loved ones, and colleagues.

The following is a handy list of ten habits that will help you maintain your health and wellness.

1: Limit alcohol intake; For those that can not survive without alcoholic beverages, the dietary guidelines suggest you do so in moderation, no more than one drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men.

That equates to 12 ounces of beer, 8 ounces of malt, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of a shot of 80 proof distilled spirits or liquor eg gin, rum, vodka or whiskey.

Excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to numerous immediate and long term health risks.

2:Avoid / quit tobacco usage; No list will be complete with acknowledging the innumerable reasons why the use of tobacco is unhealthy. If you are a smoker it's likely you will find the habit one of the hardest to change.

Tobacco usage has long term adverse effects on the direct user and sometimes the passive smoker as well.

3: Stay hydrated; water, clear non-caffeinated beverages, and food all count towards your fluid intake. Avoid sports drinks such as soda and pick water-rich fruits and vegetables for snacks.

Begin each morning by drinking a glass full of water and continue the trend throughout the day.

Men should aim to drink at least 12 glasses of water per day while women should drink at least 9 glasses of water per day.

Drinking fluids throughout the day will help your body cells absorb water gradually without adding stress to your kidneys.

4: Build your plate around healthy choices; start by filling your plates with fruits and vegetables, fill in the rest of your meals with a selection of proteins, whole grains, and dairy.

5: Walk more; do morning walks, at workplaces choose the stairs rather than the elevators, walking can increase blood flow, releasing hormones that can help us manage stress, increase alertness and burn calories.

6: Wash your hands; washing hands is the number one way of minimizing the spread of germs, using soap and water remains an effective way of handwashing.

7:Develop Healthy  Sleeping Habits; adhering to sleeping schedules can reinforce your body's "sleep-wake" such as consistently going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.

8:Choose Physical Activities You Enjoy; experts suggest that adults should set a goal of at least 30 mins of moderate-intensity each day of the week. Find an activity that you will enjoy doing and you will look forward to exercising.

9:See Your Primary Care Physician Regularly; a primary physician will help you stay healthy, manage illness, and prevent diseases.

10:Set Goals and Work Towards Achieving Them; when setting your goals in order to provide specific directions and achieve measurable results. These are the kinds of goals that are you are more likely to adopt as a part of long term commitment to better health and wellness.
