The Health Cabinet Secretary at the moment is Mutahi Kagwe. He has an MBA from the United States International University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Insurance) from the University of Nairobi.

The longtime Kenyan politician was the first senator of Nyeri County and the fifth member of parliament for the Mukurweini Constituency. Among his accomplishments as a senator is his support of "The Best Classroom," an initiative for early childhood education that aims to advance the high caliber of ECDE delivery across the country. In the Kenyan Senate, he is also recognized for having sponsored the Cyber Security and Protection Bill.

Prior to being appointed Cabinet Minister for Information and Communications, he served as the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Trade, Tourism, and Planning. He led the development of the first fiber optic project in Eastern Africa, the revolutionary East African Marine System (T.E.A.M.S). During his tenure as Cabinet Minister, Kenya introduced "Mpesa," the first mobile money transfer system in history.

Among other organizations, he is a professional member of the Kenya Institute of Management and the Marketing Society of Kenya.

He oversaw the National Emergency Response Committee of Kenya in 2020, which had been fighting the coronavirus outbreak since March. In the face of innumerable local and domestic obstacles, his efforts brought him prominence on a global scale through the Wall Street Journal.
