Simisola Ogunleye Kosoko aka Simi, born in Ojuelegba, Lagos Nigeria, on the 19th of April 1988, is a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, actress, and sound engineer.
Started her career as a gospel artist releasing her debut studio album Oga Ju in 2008 which included songs as ‘Iya Temi’ and ‘Ara Ike.’ Her prominence came in 2014 when she released an EP Restless, a single ‘Tiff,’ and ‘E No Go Funny,’ which received frequent airplay and met generally positive reviews.
In 2016 she released a love ballad ‘Love Don’t Care’, then later collaborated with Falz to release the EP Chemistry. In 2017 she released her second studio album Simisola which debuted as number five on the Billboard World Album Charts immediately after its release, included songs; ‘Joromi,’ ‘Smile For Me,’ ‘Complete Me,’ ‘Gone For Good,’ among others.
In 2019, her third studio album Omo Charlie Champagne, dedicated to her late father came out. It was a mixture of a sentimental ballad, Afro-pop, Afro-Fusion, Afro-soul, Moombahton, EDM, and R&B, preceded by singles like; ‘Ayo,’ ‘I Dun Care,’ ‘Loving,’ among others. In this very year, she launched an independent record label, Studio Brat. She also made her debut in acting on a directorial Mokalik.
In 2020, she released ‘Duduke’ while expectant, indicating her daughter was a symbol of love and hope. She released an EP Restless II which was part two of the initial EP released in 2014.
She has worked with various artists; Adekunle Gold, Chiké, Patoranking, Cobhams, Maleek Berry, among others. She has won 11 awards and 16 nominations all through her musical journey.
