Seth Panyako, the secretary general of the Kenya National Union of Nurses, has stated that he is a nurse by trade.
Panyako has gone a step further by disclosing his previous employer before joining the union.
He confessed while being questioned by Hussein Mohammed on Citizen TV.
Before becoming the secretary general of the Kenya National Union of Nurses, the outspoken unionist claimed to have worked as a nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Panyako defended himself by saying that he is familiar with the state of the healthcare system, particularly what occurs in a hospital. By adamantly advocating for a nurses' strike, he was responding to accusations that he did not care about the suffering patients in healthcare facilities.
"During my last assignment as a nurse in Kenya, I worked at KNH. I am aware of what occurs in medical facilities, Seth said.
Kenyan nurses in a number of counties are striking because they believe the government is not paying attention to their concerns. They are requesting that the government address the complaints they made in a collective bargaining agreement they previously signed.
Panyako has demonstrated his resolve by vowing that the striking nurses won't be allowed to return to work until their demands are met by the government.
