Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, popularly known as Patoranking, is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall musician and composer born on May 27, 1990. Patoranking is an Onicha native who was born and reared in Ijegun-Egba Satellite Town. He began his music career by collaborating with underground artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam, and Reggie Rockstone.
In 2010, he got a record deal with K-Igberaga Solo's Records and released "Up in D Club" under the label. After working with Timaya on his song "Alubarika," Patoranking became a Dem Mama Records protégé. He obtained a record deal with Foston Musik in February 2014 and released "Girlie O," a tune that catapulted him to fame. Patoranking revealed on Instagram on February 9, 2015, that he has inked a distribution agreement with VP Records.
Patoranking was born and raised in Ijegun-Egba Satellite Town, but had Onicha ancestors. He began his education at Citizen Comprehensive College in Epe, Lagos, and afterwards transferred to Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School in Iponri. Patoranking began his career in the performing arts as a street jam and carnival dancer.
He told Entertainment Express in 2012 that his stage name was provided to him by a Jamaican artist he met at Alpha Beach in Lagos. Patoranking's musical influences include Buju Banton, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus, Majek Fashek, Black, Blackface, Tuface, and Marvelous Benjy. In the previously stated interview with Entertainment Express, he described his music as a morally inclined variety of dancehall that references socio-political themes.
Patoranking was announced as one of the judges for the inaugural season of The Voice Nigeria in January 2016. On August 1, 2016, Patoranking released his debut studio album God Over Everything. Phyno, Wizkid, Sarkodie, Olamide, Elephant Man, and Wasiu Ayinde Marshall make appearances. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Patoranking has established a scholarship program for young African youngsters who would otherwise be unable to attend school. Despite his global fame and success, the musician remains committed to education.
In 2019, he met with the originator of the ALU scholarship program, where he developed a program to train ten innovative and passionate students, particularly from his hometown of Ebuta-Metta.
