Osborne Macharia's Bio.

Born in Nairobi Kenya, on 11th April 1986, Osborne Macharia is a self-taught commercial photographer and digital artist, identified as the master of creating alternate black universes, whose work focuses on themes of Afrofuturism in culture, identity, and fiction narratives.

Osborne Macharia's Career Journey.

Unlike many people, his career breakthrough came from failing in his last unit in Bachelor's degree in Architecture. He started building his career skills, relying on research and online tutorials, and acquired some equipment to boost him in implementing all that he had learned as well as identifying with mentors who inspired him. He describes his work as a post-colonial narrative about continents, embracing history, present culture, and future aspirations through; art, music, and fashion.

In 2017, he spoke at the Design Indaba Conference. In 2018, he was a judge at the Art Director's Club in New York Awards. In the same year, he was commissioned to promote the film, Black Panther, by designing and creating a collection of Afrofuturistic inspired photographs. The project was dubbed, 'Ilgelunot,' meaning Chosen Ones in Maasai. Later, he was selected as one of the Five Creative Revolutionaries of Africa, in which Macharia's chosen work was The Eye, a virtuoso who could record and playback what he saw with a digital eye. This was a metaphor for the African people who see their culture and heritage as beautiful.

Some of his works include; 'Kipipiri Woman,' 'Capture Kenya I & II,' 'Black Sudan,' 'Kenya's League of Extravagant Grannies,' 'Melanin Zero,' among others. He has secured some awards including; Kenya Cannes Lion Awards, in 2015, One Show Finalist, in 2016, Hasselblad Masters Finalist, in 2016, and featured in Lurzers Archive 200 Best Digital Artists Worldwide, in 2016 and 2018. His work has been featured in various brands; Vogue, Maria Claire, BBC, Coke, and Afro-Punk.
