The history of female musicians in Nigeria would be incomplete if Niniola Apata was not mentioned.
 Niniola (born December 15, 1986) is a vocalist, singer, songwriter, and stage performer.


Her talent was discovered during the MTN Project Fame Music competition Season 6 in 2013. The prestigious competition in which she finished as the third runner-up, performing alongside Limpopo master, Kcee.

Niniola Early Years

Niniola is from Nigeria's Western region, specifically Ekiti state. She is a Christian of Yoruba descent. 


She is the daughter of Simon Apata, a former Brigadier General who was murdered when she was eight years old.  Teniola Apata, Teniola's younger sister, is a well-known Nigerian singer. 

Her father had three wives and numerous children. 
The Apatas were a close-knit family despite their large size. Niniola's father is a music enthusiast who would play records in their home every day. 

Her mother, on the other hand, initially opposed her decision to become a musician but eventually accepted it.


Niniola Education 


Niniola received her primary education at Apata Memorial School, a military boarding school founded by her father, Simon Apata, in Ekiti state.

She completed a four-year Bachelor of Education program at the University of Lagos.


Niniola Career

Niniola's passion for music began in secondary school. She performs for free in front of her classmates as her audience. 

She was so talented that she was chosen to lead the school's cultural musical group in inter-school and inter-state competitions.

Niniola continued to pursue her musical passion after graduation, which led to her participation in the MTN Project Fame Season 6 edition in 2013. Her performance was noteworthy, as she finished third in the competition. 

Her debut single, Ibadi, produced by Sarz and released in March 2014, quickly became one of the most requested and listened to songs in Nigeria and throughout Africa. She went on to have more success. Gbowode was one of them.

Soke was followed by Start Over, Shaba, J'ete, Jigi-Jigi, Maradona, and Sicker, all of which were hit singles.  

Niniola's international debut saw her collaborate with Ugandan Eddy Kenzo on his hit song, Mbilo Mbilo. This feature earned them the AFRIMA award for Best Collaboration in 2016.

After much anticipation from fans, the Nigerian singer released her first album, This Is Me, with 13 tracks on November 1, 2017. The album was accompanied by an Apple Music Artist of the Month award.

Her success led to a South African music tour, and she was immediately booked to perform at the prestigious South Africa Music Carnival in February 2018. 

Renowned African DJ Snake couldn't get enough of Niniola's single Maradona, so she collaborated with her on a remix titled Maradona Riddim, which was released on July 22, 2018.

Niniola continued to release hits, becoming the first female Nigerian artist to surpass one million monthly Spotify listeners.

 Niniola was on her way to her first-ever concert, The Human Radio, which was held at the Landmark Event Center Victoria Island in Lagos State. The show was a smashing success.

Niniola's achievements earned her nominations for various awards and categories. Her nomination for the 2020 Grammy Awards for her contributions to Beyoncé's Find Your Way Back, in the album Lion King: The Gift, is the most notable.

She was also nominated for Africa's Choice Awards (next rated 2015), Screen Awards (Best Female Artist 2015), Nigerian Oscar (Most Promising Artist Of The Year 2015), Ghana Naija ShowBiz Awards (Best Female Acts 2018), and a number of other awards.

Niniola Personal Life

Niniola spends her free time listening to music and partying. She enjoys both cooking and teaching.  According to those who know her, she is a very calm and friendly person.

She stated in one of her interviews that she would not marry anyone from the entertainment industry. Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Celine Dion, Beyoncé, and the legendary Cranberries are among her role models.

According to rumors, Niniola has a boyfriend whom she keeps hidden from the media, but this cannot be confirmed. There is a regular search to see if she has a child, but no publication confirms this either. She bills herself as the 'Queen of Afro-House.'
