She is the first of five children. Her younger sister, Nancy Sumari, was Miss Tanzania and Miss World Africa in 2005.
Career of Nakaaya Sumari
Nakaaya Sumari was a star in the African Great Lakes region's first reality TV show, "Tusker Project Fame," from October 1 to December 17, 2006. Aspiring singers from Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya lived together and got music business training as part of the program. She only lasted five weeks of the seven-week course.
Her debut album, Nervous Conditions, was released in February 2008. Despite the fact that the album was only available on CD, it sold well on its own. Malaika, the first Nakaaya Sumari song to be played on the radio, did well, but Mr. Politician, the follow-up, was a huge success throughout the African Great Lakes region. As a result of the video's widespread circulation, Nakaaya Sumari's popularity rose.
Nakaaya Sumari was a goodwill ambassador for the East African Community. She signed a record deal with Sony BMG after a tour in Denmark in 2009. At the 2008 Kisima Music Awards, she was nominated for song of the year in Tanzanian for her song "Mr. Politician." At the 2008 Pearl of Africa Music Awards, she was nominated for Best Tanzanian Female Artiste.
